the confrontation appeared to have “started over a parking issue”

This was in a big, suburban shopping area; my wife and I have eaten at a Mexican restaurant nearby on the way back from Austin. I can’t imagine how scary it must have been for families eating or shopping nearby when this all went down...

I’m sure plenty of these guys were looking for a reason to start a fight, but if it really did all start over a parking spot, that’s just ridiculous. At least no bystanders were hurt.

Sounds like the restaurant didn’t do anything to help the situation:

The Twin Peaks Restaurant had hosted motorcycle gang members in the past, the police said. The authorities made little effort on Sunday to conceal their frustration with the restaurant’s managers, who they said had previously been uncooperative in dealing with the Police Department’s security concerns about biker gatherings there.

“We have attempted to work with the local management of Twin Peaks to no avail,” Sergeant Swanton said. “They have continued to allow these bikers to gather here, and this is the culmination of what has occurred.”

He added: “What happened here today could have been avoided if we had had management at a local establishment listen to their police department and assist us. They failed to do that.”

On Sunday, at least 12 Waco police officers, as well as officers with the state’s top law enforcement agency, the Texas Department of Public Safety, worked to secure the area before the shootout started because officials “expected issues,” Sergeant Swanton said.

“Apparently, the management wanted them here,” he said, “so we didn’t have any say-so on whether they could be here or not.”

The fight broke out at Twin Peaks restaurant and spilled into the parking lot. It quickly escalated from hands and feet, as weapons, to gunfire. To escape the fight, some restaurant customers and employees took cover in the freezer

Whoever thought bringing 5 or 6 outlaw biker gangs together for wings and beer was a good idea is an idiot. Also, this picture appeared in today’s WaPo. You can see a couple of the dead bikers in the foreground.

No, the fight included clubs, chains, etc in addition to the knives and guns some bikers may carry on them all the time. Plus, the police were there before it started because they got a tip something was going to go down. There have been many fights there in the past. To say this started “due to a parking argument” is careless. You don’t show up at a bar with clubs and chains if you don’t plan on getting into a rumble. This was a biker gang fight that was going to happen no matter what, not because some one spontaneously got upset about parking.

I wonder if the owner/manager could be found criminally negligent somehow.

These weren’t motorcyclists. Just gang members that happen to ride motorcycles. But then again, some Harley Davidson riders have been giving motorcyclist this image since before WW2.

Trying to think back when the last time a group of BMW or KTM riders got in a ‘gang’ style shootout outside of a shitty restaurant...hmm

I imagine they’re looking at it. But I imagine there’s only so much the police can do to a private business. The manager probably figured it would be a great day for sales.

Cops may have hastened the demise of some of those gangsters, according to reports. If so, then I’d say they should have done more.

Assuming this event happened after several hours, it probably still was a great day for sales. Probably not so great that they’ll be shut down for a week as a crime scene, though...

I was intrigued by this photo from the WaPo showing a man in jeans, with a beard and shaved head holding an AR-15 and wearing a POLICE vest. I wonder if he was some sort of undercover cop riding with the bikers, or just UC cop looking to fit in at the scene.

If the cops warned them not to hold the event, but they had it anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised of they shut the place down for health code violations. They may not be able to simply close the place, but the city can send in the health inspectors and make Twin Peaks’ life hell for a long time.

Sad in 2015, people can be brainwashed into gangs. You have more to live for than a patch and a “smokescreen of friendship”.

Hard for me to believe that any of these guys were brainwashed or pressured into joining these gangs. They all wanted to play “tough guy” and found a group that would let them do that, and are now paying the consequences.

Its a combination of that too. They play the tough guy role and are also told that they can “rise the ranks to be in charge”. smh
